Participation in international sustainability rankings provides independent recognition of UMinho’s efforts to integrate environmental, social and governance principles into its activities. These benchmarks make it possible to assess the institution’s relative position, promote transparency and identify opportunities for improvement. In 2024, the University stood out in the following rankings.

UI GreenMetric World University Rankings

Assesses institutions’ performance in environmental sustainability and campus management, including energy and climate change, water, waste, mobility, infrastructure and education.

Ranking:
#130 out of 1,477 participating universities worldwide.
1st place in Portugal (2024 edition).

QS Sustainability Rankings

Analyses institutions’ ability to respond to environmental, social and governance challenges, considering dimensions such as environmental impact, equality and inclusion, well-being, employability and institutional ethics.

Ranking:
#355 out of 1,744 institutions assessed worldwide.
4th place in Portugal (2025 edition).

These results demonstrate the consistency of the work undertaken and reinforce the institution’s commitment to responsible management practices aligned with international sustainability standards.
