National Automated External Defibrillation Programme
UMinho is licensed under Decree-Law 188/2009 and Decree-Law 184/2012 for the use of automated external defibrillation equipment, with Dr Gonçalo Nuno Gonçalves Órfão, holder of professional licence no. 53675 issued by the Portuguese Medical Association, as the responsible physician.
AEDs are used in cases of cardiac arrest to identify the heart rhythm, including ventricular fibrillation (VF), which is present in approximately 90% of cardiac arrests.
